The export performance of firms has a key role for the Turkish economy. On the other hand, global environmental problems have clearly revealed the importance of reducing the negative impact of firms on the environment while carrying out their activities. From this point of view, this study aims to draw attention to the importance of making environmental commitment a core strategy in firms and to measure the impact of environmental commitment on export performance. In this context, specifically, the effects of having strategic goals related to environmental or global climate change-related problems, having a manager responsible for these problems, having an international quality certificate, having goals to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and the measures taken to protect the environment and climate change on the export performance of Turkish manufacturing firms participating in the World Bank Enterprise Survey (Turkey-2019) are examined. The data set required for the research was obtained from the World Bank Enterprise Survey (Turkey – 2019) and the data obtained were analyzed by regression method. The results of the analysis indicate that having an international quality certificate and the measures taken by the firm towards environmental protection and climate change have a positive impact on export performance. Considering both the importance of the natural environment for sustainable development and the critical role of exports for the growth of firms and the national economy, the results of this study are expected to provide useful information for both firms and policy makers.

Firmaların ihracat performansları Türkiye ekonomisi açısından kilit bir role sahiptir. Diğer taraftan küresel olarak yaşanan çevresel sorunlar, firmaların faaliyetlerini gerçekleştirirken çevre üzerindeki olumsuz etkilerini azaltmalarının önemini açıkça ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bu noktadan hareketle bu araştırma, firmalarda çevresel bağlılığın temel bir strateji haline getirilmesinin önemine dikkat çekmeyi ve çevresel bağlılığın ihracat performansı üzerindeki etkisini ölçmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu kapsamda Dünya Bankası İşletme Anketleri (Türkiye-2019) çalışmasına katılan Türk üretim firmalarının; özellikle çevresel veya küresel iklim değişikliği ile ilgili sorunlara ilişkin stratejik amaçlarının bulunmasının, bu sorunlardan sorumlu bir yöneticiye sahip olmalarının, çevreyle ilgili uluslararası bir kalite sertifikasına sahip olmalarının, enerji tüketiminin ve karbon salınımının azaltılmasına yönelik amaçlarının bulunmasının ve çevrenin korunmasına ve iklim değişikliğine yönelik aldıkları önlemlerin ihracat performansları üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Araştırma için gerekli olan veri seti Dünya Bankası İşletme Anketleri (Türkiye – 2019) çalışmasından sağlanmış ve elde edilen veriler regresyon yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçları; uluslararası bir kalite sertifikasına sahip olunmasının ve firmanın çevrenin korunmasına ve iklim değişikliğine yönelik aldığı önlemlerin ihracat performansını olumlu yönde etkilediğine işaret etmektedir. Gerek sürdürülebilir kalkınma açısından doğal çevrenin önemi gerekse de ihracatın firmaların ve ülke ekonomimizin büyümesi açısından oynadığı kritik rol dikkate alındığında; çalışma ile edilen sonuçların hem firmalar hem de politika belirleyiciler açısından faydalı bilgiler ortaya koyması beklenmektedir.
